Update: The Vagabond V150 / V300 System is being discontinued, to be replaced by the new Vagabond II. Please visit the Vagabond page on both our AlienBees and White Lightning websites to learn more.
What are the differences between the Vagabond V150 and Vagabond V300 Portable Power Systems?
Both the V150 and V300 systems arrive with one internal 12 Volt battery, but the V150 system contains one CU-150 Power Converting Unit
while the V300 system contains two CU-150 units
Having the second CU-150 unit in the V300 system makes the recycle times faster in multi-light setups
by dividing the recycling current of two or more lights between two converters. Each CU-150 unit supplies recyling current at the rate of 150 Ws per second - this current is shared between any number of flash units that are connected to it, automatically adjusting the system recycle time.
If you had, for example, two X-Series X800 units (330 Ws each / 660 Ws total)
connected to one CU-150 unit, you could expect to get approximately 400 full power flashes
with the recycle time between each full power flash being approximately 4 seconds
. With the V300 unit, you could connect one X800 unit to one CU-150 and connect the second X800 unit to the second CU-150 - the total number of full power flashes would remain the same (as both systems have one internal battery), but the recycle time would be approximately 2 seconds
