Funny you mention the d40 with b1600's. I tried shooting at 1/2000 with my d70 this year synced with my Ranger, (2) 1600's and (1) 800 just for kicks. Didn't have much usable range but it did a little.

Paul,
Would you elaborate on the recycle times for the Einstein units. Will the recycle times be similar to the WL units of comparable power? How are the recycle times affected by reducing the output of the unit?
One general question, why are power pack units (Zeuss) able to recycle so much faster than the monoblocks for the same equivalent power?
Thanks,
I feel for you snowboard guys.
A major problem you may always face is that the vast majority of the strobe market would be very happy to add some extra weight (ie heatsinks etc) if this translates into faster recycle times. I gather you don't care about recycle times (ie only one shot per jump anyway) but don't want to hire motorised transport for every shoot.
Or am I wrong- do you want fast recycles as well?
For me personally recycle times aren't super important. The important stuff is output/duration vs. weight/size. Flashes per charge are important too since batteries are heavy. And sometimes we have snowmobiles which help big-time.

Einstein and Cyber Commander have both been evolving both in features and powering flexibility. Cyber Commander will be released first and is being programmed right now. Both have a huge number of new features and user interface improvements.
I am at the mercy of my programmers and parts suppliers as to the exact release dates and, unlike Toyota or Apple, don't have a staff of 50 engineers. But in ways I consider this a blessing because because, as they say, too many chefs spoil the soup.
My best estimate at this point is Cyber Commander = October, Einstein = Nov. In both cases, this is Fall 2008 as stated all along.
New info will be coming as fast we are sure such information is correct.

At the risk of being a pest, any new info yet? I'm planning on investing in some studio lights in the next month or so, and I had pretty much decided on Elinchrom lights, but the Einsteins sound like they might be worth waiting for. I'm really curious about the undisclosed feature(s) hinted at so far.

Have there been any more developments? Are things still on schedule for November? I'm sure i'm not the only one out there waiting to check these out before making my decisions on new lighting.

We're intense on CyberCommander, as it must be functional to finish up Einstein. I'm waiting on some power supply engineering/testing for Einstein. It's a lot of new ground to run from batteries and 95VAC to 250VAC. No snags we are aware of but it takes time.
If we make November it will be late Nov. We'll have a better handle in a couple of weeks.

Hi Paul!
Don't wanna be a pain in the ass, but do you have any news on the release date?
You see, I'm going to the states in January and will be staying in Lake Tahoe, CA for two months before I head back to Norway. And I'm trying to figure out if I should get 2 or 3 of them before I leave Norway so I have some time to learn how to use them, or if I should just wait till I get over there.
So do you think you will be able to ship mid Desember?
Thanks a lot for all the info by the way!

Any Einstein updates Paul? I know there's quite a few of us waiting to see how these turn out before making decisions on new gear. Any photos of the system you could let out? Or further info on expected shipping date/specs

Or further info on expected shipping date/specs Can't give firm dates yet. I'm dependent on engineering people who are slower than me. This is a huge amount of design and engineering work. Not going to happen before the end of the year at the earliest. FYI, yes, I am the designer and engineer. But this takes a lot of support engineering and specialists.
