The flashtube
in your White Lightning Unit is simple to replace, just follow these easy
instructions. If you have any
difficulties, we're here for you! You
can call us Toll Free at 1-800-443-5542, Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to
5:00pm (CST) and we'll help you.
1. Turn your flash unit OFF and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
Wait at least five minutes to make sure that the unit does not have any power stored in the capacitors before handling it. To fully discharge the unit, place both power switches in the OUT position, then wait for the unit to cool. Failure to discharge the units may result in a shock hazard, even when the units are disconnected. Please note that the flashtube and modeling lamp may be warm to the touch after use. Allow both to cool fully before proceeding.
2. Remove the modeling lamp.
The modeling lamp is a standard household bulb with a medium Edison-type base. Unscrew the modeling lamp from the faceplate base just as you would unscrew a standard light bulb from a lamp. You should wear gloves or use a small piece of cloth or tissue to remove the lamp so that you do not get any of your finger oils on the bulb.
3. Remove the exhausted flashtube.
Still wearing gloves or using a piece of cloth or tissue, pull the flashtube straight up and out of the unit. Pull on the center metal band / contact with a pair of small insulated pliers. Note that the center contact of the flashtube is only lightly crimped onto the glass envelope and may appear loose. This is normal. When properly seated, the center contacts must be seated on the tube and in contact with the silver painted stripe on the glass.
4. Install the new, replacement flashtube.
To install the new tube, hold the tube’s outside glass in your hands with the three metal legs sticking out. Make sure that the three legs are straight - they may need to be straightened with either your fingers or needle nose pliers. Ensure that the center contact is seated on the silver painted stripe. To position the tube, line up the three legs on the flashtube with the three corresponding the sockets on the unit. Insert the tube by gently and evenly pushing until the tube is seated all the way down in the unit and is square with the back of the reflector.
5. Screw the modeling lamp back in slowly.
You are done. Plug the flash unit back into the AC power source and turn it on. If the flashtube is working properly, the modeling lamp will come on, and the unit will fire when the TEST button is pressed.
